VirtualBox

This is for win / linux / mac but I will go over it for linux xD

Virtual Machine software by Sun

There are 2 versions of this opensource and part open
The full opensource does not give you USB support so this will install the part open

If you have it installed without USB support remove the old version

sudo apt-get autoremove virtualbox-ose

Now add to VirtualBox rep if you don't already have it. Click System > Administration > Software Sources.

(*change the paths to your distro, this is ubuntu 9.04*)
deb Index of /virtualbox/debian/ jaunty non-free

Now grab the GPG key from
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtu...n/sun_vbox.asc

now import the key
reload the repo's

now lets install again change this to the current version thats out

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-2.2

Add yourself to the vbox usergroup

sudo gpasswd -a YOURUSERNAME vboxusers

Now you can start adding virtual machines

Extra: Now if you want the screen to auto resize with your desktop when you expand your shink the windows you will need to install the extra plugins for the guest OS. This will also allow you to keep switching back and forth without having to press and extra keys to exit your mouse and KB from the VM + other goodies to play with

Boot into your VM you setup
Press your HOST KEY + Home
menu will show up and click device and at the bottom install guest os additions
click through all the install stuff.

Also your device list should now appear in the top menu of the VM window.
If your using MAC it should already be there as it seemed for a friends setup but for mine I have to install the additions for it to show up so not to sure about that one or if it updated to 2.2 and it added it already and showed up after I rebooted VBox and didn't notice VBox in the update list.
So if device isnt in your top menu use the HOST Key + Home
